Meet Kayla Maxey
Kayla Maxey, Ph.D. is a passionate advocate for expanding opportunities in STEM and Career and Technical Education (CTE), working to create practical, community-driven solutions that open doors to career pathways and economic mobility for all students. With experience in biomedical engineering and higher education, Dr. Maxey knows firsthand how diverse skills and perspectives drive innovation and strengthen industries.
As a National Science Foundation (NSF) grant recipient, she focuses on developing inclusive education programs that equip educators with the tools to foster career readiness and workforce alignment in emerging and in-demand industries. From electromechanical device design to teaching biomechanical and electrical systems in college classrooms, Dr. Maxey brings real-world experience to her work, helping educators bridge the gap between classroom instruction and workforce needs.
In partnership with the state educational agencies, secondary, and post-secodary institutions across the United States, Dr. Maxey works to ensure that education and workforce development reflect the needs of local communities. By collaborating with teachers, administrators, businesses, and community leaders, she helps shape workforce initiatives that create long-lasting opportunities and economic growth.
At the heart of her work is a simple belief—educators are catalysts for change. Dr. Maxey is committed to breaking down barriers so that teachers and institutions can create inclusive learning environments that not only benefit students but also strengthen communities and local economies.
Our Story
InnovateSTEM was founded by Kayla Maxey, a visionary entrepreneur, engineer, and advocate for youth empowerment. A graduate of Syracuse University, Kayla’s journey began with a passion for innovation and a desire to inspire the next generation. Her career was shaped by her experiences as a world traveler and avid runner, which broadened her perspective and fueled her commitment to creating opportunities for young minds.
After earning her master’s degree from Marquette University, Kayla continued to pursue academic excellence and professional growth, becoming a Ph.D. candidate at Purdue University. Along the way, she saw a critical need to bridge gaps in STEM education, particularly for underserved communities. Driven by this vision, Kayla founded InnovateSTEM to provide engaging programs, hands-on learning opportunities, and mentorship for students. Her leadership and dedication have made InnovateSTEM a beacon of inspiration for educators and youth alike.
Our Approach
InnovateSTEM employs a comprehensive, three-phase methodology—Assessment, Design, and Execution—to transform STEM education and empower students and educators alike.
Assessment
We begin by evaluating the unique needs, challenges, and opportunities within schools, communities, or organizations. This includes analyzing existing STEM programs, gathering input from educators and students, and identifying gaps in resources or accessibility.
Design
Based on the assessment, we craft tailored solutions that align with educational goals and community needs. These solutions integrate innovative teaching strategies, cutting-edge technology, and hands-on learning experiences to engage students and inspire curiosity.
Execution
Our team collaborates closely with stakeholders to implement these programs effectively. This includes providing professional development for educators, supplying necessary tools and resources, and monitoring progress to ensure long-term impact.
